Diamond Lewis is being recognized in Category 1: Building a Customer Focused Culture for her outstanding leadership in centering the voices of youth and families impacted by the justice system. From intern to Program Manager in the Youth Justice System Innovation Division, Diamond has led transformative efforts that ensure lived experience directly informs national juvenile justice policy and practice.

Her work exemplifies how government can better serve communities by designing programs with, not just for, the people most affected. By fostering trust, inclusion, and opportunity, Diamond has created lasting pathways for youth engagement and empowerment within the justice system.

Among her many contributions, she has co facilitated OJJDP’s Youth and Family Partnerships Working Group, designed the first ever youth track at OJJDP’s National Conference which included scholarships for more than 120 youth representing all 50 states, and piloted OJJDP’s first fellowship program for system impacted youth. She has offered mentorship and created connections for youth to pursue employment, advisory, and speaking opportunities, while also providing training on youth engagement best practices and trauma informed storytelling.

Diamond’s work has changed lives. Many young people credit her with launching their careers and helping them find their voice. She has also strengthened OJJDP’s relationships with grantees, community organizations, and national networks, creating a more compassionate, responsive, and inclusive justice system for future generations.
