Erin Fitzgibbons is being honored in Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services for leading a major modernization of mission-critical technology supporting national security and global trade enforcement. As Acting Division Director for Technology Solutions, Erin has combined cloud technology, modern data architecture, and human-centered design to deliver the organization’s most significant technology advancements in more than a decade.

Under her leadership, the team delivered five new mission-critical applications, retired three legacy systems, and established a scalable, cloud-first architecture using technologies including Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Purview. Her incremental modernization strategy reduces technical debt and cybersecurity risks while improving data discovery, governance, and accessibility. By focusing on secure, scalable technologies and measurable outcomes, Erin has transformed complex legacy environments into more modern and reliable digital services.

These advancements are improving experiences for more than 1.5 million users worldwide who rely on BIS systems for export control information and compliance. Modernized platforms provide 24/7 availability, more intuitive regulatory processes, streamlined workflows, and faster access to critical information.
