Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services

JEREMY WALSH

Former Chief AI Officer

U.S. Food and Drug Administration

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services

Jeremy Walsh, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s former Chief AI Officer, is being honored in Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services for leading a major transformation of the agency’s regulatory and public health technology. Through secure artificial intelligence, unified data platforms, and automation, Jeremy is breaking down data silos and replacing time-consuming legacy processes with modern tools that help FDA employees work faster and more effectively.

Jeremy led the rollout of ELSA, FDA’s secure generative AI assistant, which reduces administrative burdens and accelerates regulatory review. He has also advanced the FDA’s enterprise data warehouse and Sentinel 3.0 Data Platform, bringing post-market safety information from multiple FDA centers into a unified, FedRAMP-authorized environment. His leadership behind the FDA Adverse Event Monitoring System dashboard is improving product safety monitoring, while the Agentic AI Challenge empowers employees to develop autonomous AI workflows tailored to mission needs.

These innovations allow FDA reviewers to spend less time on repetitive manual tasks and more time evaluating the safety and effectiveness of medical products. Jeremy’s AI strategy also supports initiatives seeking to significantly shorten certain regulatory review timelines, potentially helping important medications and medical devices reach patients faster. By combining secure AI, integrated data, and employee-driven innovation, Jeremy is helping build a faster, smarter, and more responsive FDA while strengthening its ability to protect public health.
