The Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General (SSA OIG) is being honored in Category 2: Delivering Excellence in Digital Services for leading a nationwide education campaign to combat government impersonation scams through its “Slam the Scam” initiative.
Launched in collaboration with SSA, National Slam the Scam Day empowers the public to recognize and reject fraudulent calls and messages. The campaign built strong partnerships across government, private industry, and advocacy groups, amplifying anti-fraud messaging through press releases, social media, and national outreach events.
In 2024, the initiative achieved extraordinary reach, generating more than 21.3 million impressions on X, 4.3 million on Facebook, and 1.3 million on Instagram. Over 400 Congressional offices shared scam warnings with their constituents, while outreach extended to 3.4 million radio listeners, 400 million through print and online coverage, and 4.2 million television viewers. The program also received official support from the U.S. Senate and continues to collaborate with the U.S. Postal Service and other federal agencies.
Through strategic communication, cross-sector collaboration, and creative outreach, the Slam the Scam team is helping Americans recognize, report, and resist scams, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring trust in government communications.
