The Targeting and Analysis Systems Program Directorate (TASPD) at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is being honored in Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services for transforming border security through artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and secure cloud technology. TASPD integrated these technologies directly into frontline operations, replacing time-intensive manual data analysis with faster, more precise intelligence that supports millions of security decisions each year.

The team pioneered the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate intelligence synthesis and help officers identify meaningful threats within massive volumes of global trade and travel data. By migrating mission-critical workloads to secure cloud platforms, TASPD provides frontline personnel with 24/7 access to real-time anomaly detection and threat assessment tools. The team also strengthened information sharing across domestic and international partners, helping identify threat networks that may otherwise remain hidden.

The results demonstrate significant public and operational impact. In the fiscal year cited, AI-enabled targeting contributed to the interdiction of more than $100 million in narcotics and the disruption of human trafficking and transnational criminal networks, while cargo narcotics seizure-exam rates doubled. Generative AI also reduced resources required for critical leadership reporting by 80% and shortened investigative lead times, allowing personnel to concentrate on higher-confidence threats. Through AI, cloud modernization, and data collaboration, TASPD is creating a more efficient, resilient, and proactive border security environment while strengthening protection for communities nationwide.
